Sharing this example has caused me to reflect on the unique nature of my work. Of course, teachers are expected to behave in a way that maintains the dignity of the profession while both on duty as well as “off duty.” However, due to my particular job requirements, I am essentially always on duty. This has given me valuable practice in assessing my behavior and ensuring that I am setting a good example for educators as a whole. As I write this, I can’t help but appreciate the demanding but rewarding nature of my job and how it aligns with this particular TRB Standard.
Living and working at Shawnigan Lake School has taught me how better to conduct myself in a professional manner. My role has helped developed my ability to monitor my behavior and ensure that it exemplifies the noble profession of an educator. |
My involvement in the Y.E.S 2 Know summit exemplifies my adherence to TRB Standard 2. As mentioned in my Frame of Reference, I believe it is a teacher’s job to not only present information on curricular content but to educate students on ethics and morality as well. This can be achieved directly, by discussing ethical dilemmas or posing moral considerations, or indirectly, by behaving in a way that promotes and encourages civil attitude. With regards to this example, I believe my actions demonstrate an appreciation for ethics and integrity that align with this Standard. During the summit, I acted professionally and responsibly while engaging in potentially sensitive material with students who are at a very influential age. Ultimately, my actions and outlook speak to my commitment to TRB Standard 2.
